Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team dropped their first home match of the season in a heartbreaking five set loss to Chadron State College. The Yellow Jackets were unable to capitalize on a two game lead and would eventually fall to the Eagles 25-15, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25, and 15-17.
The Yellow Jackets came out to a strong start, taking two quick sets off of Chadron in the early going. However, Chadron would battle back after the second-set intermission and defeat the Yellow Jackets in three straight sets to win the match.
Black Hills State jumped out to an early lead with a total hitting percentage of .423 in the first set and .113 in the second. The Yellow Jackets would lose their savvy scoring in the third set and posted a dismal -.231 hitting percentage. In the end, the Yellow Jackets were unable to execute on a few match point opportunities as Chadron went on to win.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action this upcoming weekend as they take on former conference foes Jamestown and Valley City State. The first match against the Jimmies is slated for 7 p.m. MT on October 14 at the Donald E. Young Center in Spearfish and will be followed by Saturday's game against Valley City at 3 p.m. MT.
