Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State women's basketball team opened up at home tonight at the Donald E. Young Center. The Yellow Jackets fell in their first home bout of the 2011-2012 season to Northern State University by a score of 47-65.
The Yellow Jackets came out with some fire to start the first half as they kept the Wolves within reach. However, a late first half run by Northern was the catalyst for Black Hills State starting to fall behind. The late push before the half gave the Wolves a 21-31 lead. The second half would bring a much similar run from the Northern State offense as the Yellow Jacket deficit continued to grow due to shooting woes.
Black Hills State was led offensively by sophomore forward Jordan Kent. Coming off of a solid performance last weekend, Kent once again remained a force in the paint as she led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 10 points to go along-side her three rebounds, solo block, and solo steal. Calli Bechtel also had a good showing for the Yellow Jackets as she added six points of her own in only 12 minutes on the court. Bechtel also hauled in one rebound and splashed in one three pointer.
The Yellow Jacket women will return to action next Tuesday as they take on future RMAC opponent Chadron State. Tuesday's game against Chadron is set to begin at 6 p.m. MT, and will follow with the men's game at 8 p.m. MT.
