Mitchell, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell in their third and final exhibition game of season. The Yellow Jackets took on host school Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D. The Tigers came out on top in the contest with a final score of 59-74.
Despite some solid offensive performances from Rob Johnson, Cameron Anderson, and Austin Maag, the Yellow Jackets struggled offensively and were unable to overcome Wesleyan's hot shooting. Johnson tallied 13 points and seven rebounds, while Anderson added another 14 points and six rebounds of his own. The Yellow Jackets were led in scoring by sophomore guard Austin Maag who posted 18 points, four rebounds, and one assist on the evening. Black Hills State shot just 41.7% from the free throw line and 13.3% from behind the arc as a team.
"We were right there in the second half," said Head Coach Bradd Schafer. "We gave up some big momentum plays that hurt us down the stretch, and we need to be able to learn from those mistakes."
The Yellow Jackets will have a bye weekend before they travel to Colorado to take on Colorado Mines and Metro State in the first two games of the 2011-2012 regular season on November 18 and 19. Friday's game against Colorado Mines is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. MT. Saturday's match-up against Metro State is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. MT.
