Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University Women's Basketball team defeated Dickinson State 72-56 at the Donald E. Young Center in Spearfish Friday evening. The Yellow Jacket victory moves them to a 3-4 record on the season.
"We played solid defense to start the game and it really set the tempo for the rest of the game," said Head Coach Mark Nore. "Dickinson came out strong in the second half and gave us a run for our money, but we were able to come away with the win."
The Yellow Jackets set the tone of the game early by out-scoring Dickinson 38-14 in the first half. The Yellow Jacket defense was swarming; Dickinson only made 17% of their shots from the floor and 11% from behind the arc in the first half.
Black Hills State had four athletes score double digit points led by freshman McKenna Haist who scored 16 points and finished the game with two steals. Sophomore Jordan Kent added 13, while senior Bayley Chevron netted 12 and senior Kristi Ryan chipped in 11 to lead the Yellow Jackets to the victory.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday, December 9 as they travel to Billings, Mont. to take on Montana State-Billings. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm and the game can be heard locally on 980 AM KDSJ or worldwide at KDSJ980.com.
