Minot, N.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team dropped a game on the road to former Dakota Athletic Conference foe Minot State. The Yellow Jackets kept the game close throughout but were unable to overcome the Beavers as they went on to lose by a final score of 66-73.
Neither team was able to jump out early as both teams struggled shooting in the first half. The Yellow Jackets shot the ball 25% (7-27) from the floor as they kept Minot within reach, trailing 22-27 at the break. Black Hills State shot the ball much better in the second half and battled with Minot State throughout the half. The Yellow Jackets shot the ball 59% (16-27) in the second half as they scored 44 points. Despite their better shooting performance, Black Hills State was unable to overcome the Beavers as they went on to lose by six points.
The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by senior forward Rob Johnson. Johnson stretched his shot beyond the three point line as he hit four three pointers on his way to a 20 point performance. Freshman point guard Brady Bisgaard was the only other Yellow Jacket who finished the game in double figures. Bisgaard finished the contest with 11 points.
"I was really proud of the job we did defensively in the first half," said head coach Bradd Schafer. "Then we were able to come out and fight in the second half and take a one point lead with about three minutes left. We just made a few critical mistakes and missed a few important rebounds late in the game that made the difference."
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday, January 20 as they travel to Madison, S.D. to take on Dakota State, tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MT.
