Madison, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team defeated Dakota State University in a 56-44 final. The big win for the Yellow Jackets on the road improves their record to 5-9 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets were led by senior Kristi Ryan who finished the contest with 19 points, nine rebounds, and eight steals. Fellow senior Bayley Chevron added six points and recorded seven steals. The Black Hills State high-pressure defense forced Dakota State to commit 36 turnovers; The Yellow Jackets were able to net 31 points off of turnovers as they rolled to their third road win this season.
Ryan's 19 point performance was the top offensive performance for the Black Hills State offense. Eight of Ryan's points came from the free throw line as she was aggressive in getting to the hoop throughout. Freshman Cassidy Kotelman also added eight points and pulled in nine rebounds. Freshman Bailey Kusser finished the contest with seven points, and Chevron added six points, all from the free throw line.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action as they travel to Sioux Falls to square off against the University of Sioux Falls Cougars. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. MT and will be televised live on the Midco Sports Network for Midcontinent subscribers.
