Yellow Jacket Men's Basketball Outsoars the Eagles of Northern New Mexico

Spearfish, S.D. - The Black Hills State men's basketball team picked up their second consecutive win this week as they collided with Northern New Mexico at the Donald E. Young Center on Friday night. A tremendous first half performance offensively gave the Yellow Jackets the cushion they needed to cost to a 90-68 victory.

Black Hills State stretched their win streak to two games as they returned back to their home arena. The Yellow Jackets jumped out aggressively on both offense and defense as they gave the Eagles fits on both ends of the court. Black Hills State worked for high percentage looks on offense, using the extra pass to find the open shooter on their way to a 51% (31-60) shooting performance.

The Yellow Jackets had several players hit the floor running right from the opening tip. Senior Rob Johnson once again led the Black Hills State surge with 24 points to go alongside 10 rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocks. The lone senior was not the only Black Hills State player who got it going on both ends of the court. Junior guard Tommy Earl had an excellent night with 22 points, six boards, two assists, and one emphatic block late in the second half. The freshman trifecta  also had a notable performance. Brady Bisgaard, Joey Mitchell, and Brody Brisk also found the bucket numerous times as they combined for 34 points.

"Tonight's win was a total team effort," said head coach Bradd Schafer about the win. "Every single player contributed to our victory and we did a better job at getting rebounds than we have in other games this season. When you combine those two things, you have a tendency to win basketball games."

The Black Hills State men will return to action at the Donald E. Young Center on Saturday January 28 as they host Johnson & Wales of Denver. The Yellow Jackets will look to extend their win streak to three games in front of the Yellow Jacket faithful. The opening tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. MT immediately following the women's  game.
