Denver, Colo. – The Black Hills State women's basketball team fell to Metro State College 42-62 on Saturday night in Denver, Colo.
The Jackets were led by sophomore Logan Cowan, who scored 12 points on the night. Cowan made 6 of 10 shots from the floor and also pulled down four rebounds. Chelsey Biegler scored nine points, including making seven of eight free throws. Bailey Kusser also scored nine for the Yellow Jackets. Calli Bechtel scored six points and recorded five rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets struggled to get the offense going, with their first field goal coming over seven minutes into the first half. They struggled to slow down the Roadrunner's offense and trailed 14-30 going into halftime.
"It's really hard to play catch up with a team like that," said head coach Mark Nore. "We have to have better starts to our games."
The Jackets pulled to within seven points, 42-49, with 4:34 left to play in the game, but could not close the gap any further. The Roadrunners ended the game on a 13-0 run and defeated the jackets 42-62.
The Yellow Jackets shot 28.9 percent from the field during the contest, compared to 45.1 percent for the Roadrunners. As a team, Black Hills State recorded 32 rebounds, three more than Metro State. The Jackets turned the ball over 28 times during the game.
The loss drops Black Hills State to 2-7 on the year and 1-4 in the RMAC. The Roadrunners improved to 5-4 on the year and 3-1 in the RMAC. The Jackets will take on RMAC opponent Regis (Colo.) University Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Denver, Colo.
