Denver, Colo. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team lost to Regis University 50-86 in Denver, Colo. on Sunday night.
The Jackets struggled out of the gate, falling behind 18-47 going into halftime. In the first half, the Jackets were led by Chelsey Biegler's eight points and two assists. Also in the first, sophomore Dakota Barrie contributed four points and four rebounds. Black Hills State entered halftime trailing 18-47.
"We have to get better mentally and physically if we want to compete at the RMAC level," said head coach Mark Nore. "We have to make sure we come out strong and extend our leads."
Calli Bechtel sparked the Yellow Jacket's offense in the second half, scoring nine of her team-high 11 in the second period. Dakota Barrie and sophomore Bailey Kusser both scored six in the period to ignite the Yellow Jacket offense. Despite the efforts of the Jackets in the second half, Black Hills State fell to Regis University 50-86.
Black Hills State was led by Bechtel with 11 points. Barrie scored 10 points and recorded seven rebounds. Kusser and Biegler scored 10 and nine points, respectively.
The Yellow Jackets will face off against Adams State and Fort Lewis on the 4th and 5th of January in Spearfish, S.D. to begin the second half of the 2012-13 season.
