Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team lost a close game against RMAC opponent Colorado School of Mines 59-67 in Golden, Colo. on Saturday night.
The Yellow Jackets were fueled by sophomore Chelsey Biegler in the first half. Biegler scored 20 of her team-high 26 points in the first period of play. She shot 60 percent from the field in the half, including connecting on all seven of her free throw attempts. The Jackets went in to halftime trailing 33-36.
The teams went back-and-forward In the second half. The Jackets pulled to within two, 47-49, at the 11:30 mark, but could not close the gap. The Orediggers went on an 18 to 12 run to finish the game.
"I thought we played really hard tonight," said head coach Mark Nore. "We made some mental mistakes down the stretch that ended up hurting us in the end."
The Jackets were led by Beigler with 26 points and two assists. Cassidy Kotelman scored 10 points during the contest, Dakota Barrie scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Calli Bechtel score five points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out three assists in the loss.
For Colorado Mines, Allie Grazulis and Taylor Helbig scored 26 and 20 points, respectively.
The Jackets will return to Colorado next weekend, December 15 and 16, to take on Metro State and Regis (Colo.).
