Orange, Calif. - The Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell to Chapman University in Orange, Calif. by the score of 67-70 to fall to 10-15 on the season despite shooting 51% from the floor. the Yellow Jackets had chance to tie the game with less than 5 seconds remaining when freshman Brody Brisk was fouled on a three-point attempt, but he made just one of his three shots and Chapman preserved the victory.
The Panthers jumped out to a 10-2 lead, Black Hills State rallied and tied it at 11-11 with 12:40 to go in the half. From that point the teams went back and forth with four lead changes and seven ties before halftime, Black Hills State trailed 34-36 going into intermission. The Yellow Jackets were outscored 33-34 in the second half.
The Yellow Jackets were led in scoring by freshman Joey Mitchell who netted 17 points, while shooting 63% (5-8) from the floor and 60% (3-5) from behind the arc. Fellow freshman Brody Brisk added 13 points, Brisk Shot 80% (4-5) from downtown. Senior Rob Johnson was the third Yellow Jacket to score double digits, almost earning a double-double scoring 11 points and hauling in nine rebounds.
Black Hills State shot the ball well; the Yellow Jackets finished the game shooting 51% from the floor and 50% from behind the arc. Black Hills State struggled from the free throw line making only 45% of their shots from the charity stripe.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday, February 25 as they face Cal State San-Marcos, tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT.
