Box Score 2 Golden, Colo. – The Black Hills State University softball team travelled to Golden, Colo. to square off against RMAC opponent Colorado Mines. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Ore Diggers by a score of 5-13 (6 innings) in the first game of the day and 1-9 (5 innings) in the second game.
Yellow Jacket senior pitcher Katie Wagner was tagged with the loss, she pitched 2.1 innings giving up nine runs on six hits with four walks and four strike-outs. Junior Nikki Chacon relieved Wagner and pitched 2.2 innings and gave up four runs on five hits with one walk and one strike-out.
Black Hills State was led offensively by sophomore Kelsie Chambers who recorded one run on two hits in three at bats, Chambers finished the contest with two RBI's. Freshman Cassie Smith recorded one run on one hit with one RBI in two at bats.
The Yellow Jackets fell to the Ore Diggers in the second game of the day by a score of 1-9 (5 innings) junior Alex Huntington pitched two innings for Black Hills State giving up eight runs on nine hits while recording two walks and a strike out. Chacon also pitched relief in the second game of the day, pitching two innings giving up one run on two hits. Huntington was tagged with the loss.
Black Hills State was led offensively once again by Chambers who recorded one run on one hit in two at bats. Chambers played first base and recorded a game high five put-outs.
The Yellow Jackets will return to the softball diamond tomorrow, March 24 as they finish their season series with Colorado Mines with a double header set to begin at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm MT.
