Box Score 2 Rapid City, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team fell to Metro State College in their first scheduled home contests of the2012 season by a score of 10-0 in six runs, and in the second game of their double header they were un able to overcome a potent Metro State offense 7-4 at Parkview Softball Complex in Rapid City, S.D.
The Yellow Jackets kept the Road Runners scoreless for the first three innings of the contest before giving up one run in the fourth inning, three in the fifth inning and six in the sixth inning. Senior Katie Wagner took the mound for the Yellow Jackets she pitched all six innings giving up 10 runs on 10 hits, all 10 runs were earned.
Black Hills State was led offensively by junior Alex Huntington who recorded two hits on three hits. Junior Kyley Barela and freshman Cassie Smith each recorded a hit. Black Hills State did not commit any errors. The Yellow Jackets recorded four hits in the contest.
In the second game of the day the Yellow Jackets gave up a quick run to the Road Runners in the first inning, but leveled the score at 1 run each after the third inning. The fourth inning saw an offensive outpour as each team scored three runs. Black Hills State sophomore Kelsie Chambers hit a three run homerun to level the score at four a piece. Chambers finished the contest with four hits, one run and four RBI's on four at bats.
Huntington took the mound for the Yellow Jackets in their second game, she pitched 5.1 innings and gave up 7 runs (6 earned runs) on 13 hits and recorded five strike-outs. Wagner returned to mound for the final 1.2 innings for Black Hills State, she faced six batters and recorded two strike-outs and walked one, with no hits or runs allowed.
The Yellow Jackets will return to the softball diamond as they host Dakota Wesleyan in a non-conference match-up at the Parkview Softball Complex in Rapid City, S.D. the games are scheduled 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. MT.
