Spearfish, S.D. – The Yellow Jacket softball team wrapped-up the spring season today against former DAC Conference opponent Minot State. Black Hills State was unable to hold off the Beavers in both games as the Yellow Jackets lost by scores of 1-4 and 4-5 in the double header.

Black Hills State head coach Amy Gurney picked the final home games of the season to recognize the team's two seniors, Katie Wagner and Karly Ackerman. Senior pitcher Katie Wagner took the mound for all seven innings of the first contest and gave up four runs on eleven hits. Wagner tallied up seven strike outs to add to her career total 400+ as the Black Hills State softball programs all-time leader in that category.

The Yellow Jackets rallied behind the strong pitching from the mound and held a one run lead entering the sixth inning. A big inning for the Beavers in the sixth proved to be the difference in the game as the Yellow Jackets gave up four runs on their way to the 1-4 loss.

Black Hills State was led by sophomore catcher Lenaya Vigil who was on her game both offensively and defensively. Vigil recorded two hits on three plate appearances and knocked in one RBI. Vigil also had seven put outs defensively as she led the Yellow Jackets in that category.

The second game was the Yellow Jackets' to win as they had a great offensive series in the third inning to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Wagner again took the mound in her final game for Black Hills State and would go on to pitch all eight innings of the contest. A big push from the Beavers in the fifth tied the game at 4-4 before Minot State would pick up the final run of the game in the eighth inning to seal the deal.

Yellow Jacket senior Karly Ackerman was a team leader defensively with six put outs to go alongside two assists from the shortstop position. The team was anchored on offense by center fielder Allie Alverson. Alverson was finding pitches all game long as she went two for four from the plate and knocked in two RBIs. Alverson also accounted for one of the team's four total runs.

The Black Hills State softball team finishes the season with an overall record of 8-40 and an RMAC conference record of 6-31. For regularly updated news and information on Yellow Jacket Softball as well as all BHSU sports, visit BHSUAthletics.com.
