Box Score 2 Dickinson, N.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team travelled to Dickinson, N.D. Monday, April 9 to square off against former Dakota Athletic Conference foe Dickinson State. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Blue Hawks in the first game of the day by a score of 3-8 but rallied in the second game and came away with the 5-2 victory.
Black Hills State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning before Dickinson scored eight runs in four innings to earn to 3-8 victory. Senior pitcher Katie Wagner was tagged with the loss, she pitched all six innings and gave up eight runs (five earned) on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts.
The Yellow Jackets were able to record seven hits but could only score three runs. Black Hills State was led offensively by junior Alex Huntington who recorded one run on two hits in three at-bats. Sophomores Lenaya Vigil and Kelsie Chambers scored the other two Yellow Jacket runs.
Black Hills State returned to the diamond for their second match-up of the day and were tied 1-1 before recording a four run fourth inning to propel them to the 5-2 victory. Wagner was the winning pitcher, she pitched all seven innings giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with three walks and a strike-out.
Vigil once again led the offensive charge as she recorded one run on two hits on three at-bats. Huntington had a strong showing at the plate as she finished the game with one hit, one run and one RBI in four at-bats and recorded five put-outs from her left field position.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday April 13 as they travel to Lakewood, Colo. to square off against Colorado Christian in a pair of double headers at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Friday and 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.
