Yellow Jackets Fall to No. 9 Metro State

Denver, Colo. – The Black Hills State volleyball team lost in straight-sets to No. 9 Metro State on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets played a strong first set against the Roadrunners, but fell short 20-25. BHSU lost the following two set 14-25 and 17-25.

"Caitlin Templeton led our charge offensively and senior Kylee Lamb patrolled the net," said head coach Sally Nichols. "We had opportunities to gain control of sets one and two, yet committed back to unforced errors that let Metro gain the upper hand and finish the match in three."

Templeton had the second-most kills on the team with nine behind Amy O'Neill. O'Neill recorded 11 kills, four digs and two blocks. Kylee Lamb had a team-high three blocks.

Kelsey Olson led the team with 13 digs and Darbi Yost spread the ball around for 12 assists.

Metro's Amy Wong had a game-high 14 kills.

"We fought both nights and continue to see improvements in both our offense and defense. We have to focus late in each set," said Nichols.

The Yellow Jackets now prepare for Chadron State at home on Tuesday. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Yellow Jacket supporters are encouraged to wear green and the first 150 fans will receive a free BHSU t-shirt.
