Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket Athletics

After a tight first half, Idaho State pulls away

POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State Bengals used a 33-21 advantage in the second half of Friday night's contest against the Yellow Jackets to take a 60-41 victory in their first win of the season.

The Jackets did however, once again for the second week in a row, keep it close in the first half after trailing by just seven points going into the break, 27-20.  Although no Yellow Jacket scored in double figures, starters Chelsey Biegler, Cassidy Kotelman, and Calli Bechtel all scored at least seven points to keep their team competitive all night.

Biegler led the way with nine points on 2-of-4 shooting and five free throws to go with three rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.  Biegler played a full 29 minutes on the night as well, to give her more time on the court compared to her 16 minutes played before fouling out last week versus Colorado State.

Kotelman turned in eight points after shooting 50-percent from the field on 4-of-8 shooting and led the way with Bechtel with four rebounds.  Bechtel finished with seven points and the Jackets only three-pointer on the evening.

Junior transfer, Shanna Halalilo, made another start for her new team and contributed four points in her 29 minutes on the court.  Junior, Dakota Barrie, once again was effect of the defensive end after grabbing two defensive rebounds, and two steals along with a team high two assists.

Freshman, Taylor Trohkimoinen, again turned in a quality 24 minutes in just her second game as a Jacket.  Trohkimoinen had three points on three free throws, and had four defensive rebounds, one block, and a steal.

The Bengals used the play of forward Jessica Tingey and guard Rebecca Schrimpsher to guide them to victory.  Tingey had a double-double on the night with 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds (6 offense, 6 defense).  Tingey hit two three-point shots and went 3-of-9 from the field to get her to nine points on the night to go with her six rebounds and two assists.

The Yellow Jackets will waste no time when getting back on the court versus their third straight Division I opponent tonight as they take on Utah State at 7 p.m. MT.
