Jackets pick up win four, beat Colo-Mesa 74-66

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Black Hills State University men's basketball team moved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as they held off a second have comeback by the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks to win, 74-66. 

Myles Henry led the way for the Yellow Jackets yet again off the bench as he scored a season and career-high as a Jacket, 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting (64.3%) on 28 minutes.  Henry is now averaging nearly 13 points per game while shooting 50-percent on the year.  Not counting the Nov. 26 game versus SD-Mines where he did not score, Miles has scored in double figures in every game while averaging 15.7 points per contest. 

Junior Yoshio Allen also provided a strong performance off the bench as he finished 6-of-9 from the field to notch 15 points and four rebounds in 21 minutes of play.  Senior Tommy Earl also scored 15 points and pulled down four boards as he went 6-of-10 on field goals to help  his team to an 11-point, 39-28, lead at halftime on Saturday night. 

The second half, however, was won by CMU as they took the half 38-35.  After the Jackets held leading scorer for CMU, Ryan Stephan, to just two of his 16 points in the second half, Jerry Duckworth stepped up to lead his team to the comeback after scoring 10 points in the second half before finishing with 13 on the night. 

Stephan went 6-of-6 from the field in the game, all in the first half and went perfect from the free throw line after hitting all four tries as he had a team-high seven rebounds.  The only other player for the Mavericks to score in double figures was Joe Kiely who dropped in 12. 

Sophomore Yellow Jacket guard, Riley Ryan, started the game and finished with seven points and had four rebounds, while starters Joey Mitchell and Brady Bisgaard were held to eight points combined and two steals.  Bisgaard did lead the team with four assists. 

BHSU shot 51.9-percent on the night (27-52 FG) as CMU finished slightly better at 52.2-percent after going 24-of-56 as a team. CMU edged the Jackets in rebounds 29 to 28.

The next game for BHSU will be back in Spearfish to host Colorado Christian University on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2013 at 6 p.m. from the Young Center.
