BHSU defense shines, win at Pueblo

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State's Logan Cowan scored a game-high 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting as the game's second leading scorer, Calli Bechtel was one-rebound shy of a double-double performance, notching 15 points and nine rebounds while shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from the three-point line.

The Black Hills State University women's basketball team (10-14, 9-11 RMAC) took down the RMAC's fourth place team, Colorado State-Pueblo, 50-46, on Friday night in Pueblo.

The Yellow Jackets' defense stood out yet again as of late while holding Pueblo from having a double digit scorer and keeping them under 50 points for just the third time this year.  Going into the contest, Pueblo had a record of 7-3 in their last 10 games.

In the team's first meeting, Pueblo won by 21 points on way to a 70-49 final score.  Pueblo's Paige Ramm scored 20 points back in January and was held to just a six-point outing last night.

BHSU held Pueblo to 19 points in the first half as Logan Cowan shot a perfect 5-for-5 for 10 points in the first half, as the Yellow Jackets stole the ball eight times by the break, leading to 10 steals on the night.

BHSU moves within just two games of earning a .500 RMAC record with two games to play as they move to 5-5 in their last 10 games as they shoot for their third win in a row tonight versus another tough opponent in the second-place UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (18-5, 15-4 RMAC).  UCCS is averaging 69.2 points per game and giving up an average of 58 per game on the year.
