Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – The South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers won their second game over the Yellow Jackets this season, 61-49, as the two team's hit the hardwood at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City on Saturday night.
After winning the first meeting in Spearfish on Nov. 26, 72-68, the Hardrockers again used a strong second half to break open a tight, 1-point game at the half where SDSM led by just one point, 24-23.
SDSM's forward, Michael Dietz, scored 15 points in the second half to help his team win by double figures as SDSM shot 52.4-percent from the field on 11-of-21 shooting in the final 20 minutes. Dietz led all scorers with 23 points (9-13 FT) and seven rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets were led once again by senior guard, Tommy Earl, who went 6-of-13 from the field to finish with 16 points and eight rebounds. Myles Henry was the only other player for the Jackets to score in double figures as he finished with 10 points.
BHSU shot 37.3-percent on 19-of-51 shooting, made 3-of-10 three-pointers, and finished 8-of-14 from the free throw line. SDSM finished the game shooting almost 49-percent (21-43 FG).
Jacket senior, Julian Holiday, came off the bench to finish third on the team in scoring with eight points as Yoshio Allen had seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.
SDSM sought additional production outside of Dietz from Caleb Shockman, who dropped in 11 points, pulled down three rebounds and had two blocks. Calvin Thomas scored nine points and had five rebounds.
The next game for the Yellow Jackets will be an RMAC match-up on Friday, Jan. 17 as Western New Mexico will travel to the Young Center for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
