COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Yellow Jacket women's team fell to the UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on the road on Friday night, 71-60, snapping their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference 9-game winning streak.
With the Jackets trailing by just four points at halftime, UCCS was able to fend-off the BHSU bid comeback, much in part to the efforts of three Mountain Lions who scored in double-figures.
UCCS's Abby Kirchoff led the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Sammi Gentile came off the bench to add 12 points. Gabby Ramirez was third on her team with 10 points.
BHSU junior guard, Chelsey Biegler, was the game's leading scorer with 20 points on 5-of-11 shooting, which included going a game-high 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Biegler added three rebounds and two steals to lead the Jackets.
The Mountain Lions used a strong shooting effort in the second half after shooting 52-percent with four 3-point shots – up from 40-percent shooting in the first half. UCCS shot 46.4-percent for the game as a team and went 7-of-15 from beyond the arch.
The Yellow Jackets went 21-of-57 (36.8%) shooting on the evening and just 2-of-15 from three-point range.
The second leading scorer on the night for BHSU head coach, Mark Nore, was forward, Logan Cowan, who came off the bench to score 11 points and grabbed six rebounds, while going 5-of-9 from the field. Guards Dakota Barrie and Taylor Trohkimoinen both finished with eight points. Senior, Calli Bechtel, led her team with nine rebounds (3 offense, 6 defense).
UCCS improves to 6-10 overall (5-7 RMAC) as the Jackets now are 10-6 overall and 9-3 in conference play. BHSU will travel to play at CSU-Pueblo tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. for a chance to remain tied for 2nd-place in the RMAC standings with CSU-Pueblo.
