Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team continued their winning ways on Saturday night as the defeated the Fort Lewis Skyhawks 77-69 in Durango, Co.
It was a back-and-forth duel during the first half of the game, with neither side being able to gain a lead for too long. But the second half was all Yellow Jackets, who took over the lead for good on a Calli Bechtel lay-up with 11:17 left in the game.
Bechtel led all Jackets in scoring with 14 points and pulled down four rebounds on the night. Dakota Barrie repeated her shooting performance from last night as she again pitched in 12 points, and grabbed seven rebounds and two assists. Chelsea Biegler and Taylor Trohkiminen both added 11 points in the victory over Fort Lewis. As a team, the BHSU women shot 49% from the field, 33% from three point range, and 71% from the free throw line.
The Yellow Jackets are now at 7-3 overall and 6-2 in RMAC play while the Skyhawks fall to 7-4 and 4-3 in the conference. The Yellow Jackets will face conference rival Chadron Eagles at home on this coming Thursday night, January 9th, 2014. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for Thursday night's game vs. Chadron will be $11 for adults and $6 for seniors and students, with the additional $1 going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
