Chadron State tops Jackets on final second shot

Box Score

SPEARFISH, S.D. – After a Brady Bisgaard made free-throw to give the Yellow Jackets a one-point, 81-80, lead with just 4.2 seconds remaining in the game - it was Chadron State guard Josiah Lee who took the inbound pass and went coast-to-coast down the right side of the court for the layup and buzzer beating shot to give the Eagles the victory on Thursday night from the Young Center.

The Chadron State College Eagles (6-7, 3-6 RMAC) trailed most of the night and saw themselves down as much as 17 points with 12:58 left in the game.  Key rebounding and a 64-percent shooting performance as a team in the second half sparked the comeback as the Eagles went 16-of-25 from the field.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets now move to 3-6 in RMAC play and 5-7 overall as they sit in 11th-place out of 14 teams in the conference.

One of the struggles the Jackets faced most of the night was from beyond the arch, where they went 3-of-20 shooting (15%).  CSC finished 7-of-17 from 3-point land and were led by a trio of players who made up a bulk of their scoring on the night.

CSC's David Downey finished with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Zac Bargen had 14 points.  Lee finished the game with 12.  The Yellow Jackets were led by senior, Tommy Earl, who had a game-high 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting (6-8 FT).

Four other Jackets scored in double-figures as both Myles Henry and Cameron Anderson had 14 points – Anderson also had a team-high eight rebounds.  Sophomore, Riley Ryan, had strong showing on 30 minutes of play with 11 points and six boards.

As a team, BHSU went 26-of-57 (45.6%) from the field and 76.5-percent from the free-throw line as CSC finished shooting almost 56-percent (29-52 FG).

The next contest for the Jackets will come versus bitter-rival, South Dakota Mines, on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 from Rapid City, S.D. at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center at 7 p.m.
