LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket women's basketball team moved to 12-10 overall on the season and 11-7 in conference play after taking down Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent Colorado Christian University on Saturday night by a score of 82-74.
The Jackets relied heavily upon their junior guard, Courtney Patterson, who had a career night after scoring 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting (61-pct, 6-6 FT). Two more BHSU players scored in double figures as junior, Chelsey Biegler, finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Jacket forward, Logan Cowan, finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets used a consistent shooting performance to edge CCU after shooting almost 54-percent in the second half (15-28 FG) before finishing the game going 31-of-63 from the field as a team, good for 49.2-percent overall.
CCU used four starters to provide most of the scoring on the night as Taylor Torres led the way with 22 points (5-11 3-pt) as both Kate Louthan and Christina Whitelaw finished with 14 points.
Whitelaw had a triple-double after a game-high 12 assists, 11 steals, and eight rebounds to lead her team. Gillian Foster was fourth on her team with 10 points.
As a team, CCU shot 44.8-percent (30-67 FG) and brought down 36 rebounds and turning in 21 assists. The Jackets had 11 assists but outrebounded CCU after pulling down 38 rebounds (28 defense, 10 offense) to go with 14 steals to help lead them to the victory.
The next games for BHSU will come in the last home games of the season on the weekend of Feb. 21-22, as the Jackets host CSU-Pueblo on Friday night and UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday night for Senior Night at 5:30 p.m. from the Young Center.
