SPEARFISH, S.D. – CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves forward, Katie Nehf, led the way as the top-scorer on the night with 25 points and eight rebounds to go with five blocks to help lead her team to a 73-61 victory over the Yellow Jacket (12-12, 11-9 RMAC) on Friday night.
The Yellow Jackets found themselves down as much as 15 points in the first half, only to claw their way back to go into halftime tied, 28-28. CSUP opened the second half on a hot start once again to take a 9-point lead just over five minutes into the half where they then sustained a 10-point lead for a majority of the rest of the game.
BHSU junior, Dakota Barrie, led the way for the Jackets while tying her season-high with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including three 3-point shots in the second half.
True freshman, Taylor Trokimoinen, finished with 10 points (5-5 FT) and five rebounds, while junior Courtney Patterson also finished the night with 10 points. Junior, Logan Cowan, had six points and five boards.
CSUP shot 37.9-percent in the first half and improved to 50-percent shooting in the second half (12-24 FG), before finishing the game at 43.4-percent as a team. BHSU remained consistent as a team shooting before finishing at 33.3-percent (12-13 FT).
Only the five CSUP starters scored on the night for the Thunderwolves as Paige Ramm was second on the team with 24 points and nine rebounds. A double-double came from forward, Taylor Fox, who finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
While the Yellow Jackets defense forced CSUP to 17 turnovers and had nine steals, it was the offensive attack that was just too much come game's end.
Tomorrow night the Jackets will host their last home game of the season as they welcome UC-Colorado Springs to town on Senior Night beginning at 5:30 p.m. from the Young Center where the first 100 BHSU students get a free throwback T-shirt.
