Women secure playoff bid with dominating 73-54 victory over Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb. – The Yellow Jackets women's basketball team locked up a spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoffs on Saturday night, after beating rival Chadron State College, 73-54, to close out the 2013-14 regular season.

The Yellow Jackets needed the victory to help keep them in the top 8 of the conference standings in order to make post-season play.  With the win, BHSU is now 13-13 overall and 12-10 in RMAC play.

BHSU's leading scorer heading into Saturday was Chesley Biegler with 15 points per game. Biegler finished with four points on Saturday while junior guard, Shanna Halalilo, stepped up to provide 29 minutes off the bench and an impressive double-double performance with 15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Junior, Logan Cowan, was the Jackets leading scorer on the night with 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field with five rebounds and two steals.  Senior, Lindsey Fearing, had four 3-pointers on the night to give her 12 points.

The game's leading scorer was CSC's Katie Ranta with 23 on 10-of-14 shooting.  However, the Eagles only had two other players who scored over six points, as Kate Simonton was second on her team with 8 points.

The Jackets established a lead early-on in the game to help them take a 7-point halftime lead, as they continued the pressure on both ends of the court to help them to a 42-30 second half advantage on way to the 19-point win.

The BHSU defense forced CSC to 19 turnovers and 19-of-51 (37.3-pct) shooting as a team and just 3-of-21 (14.3-pct) from the 3-point line.  The Yellow Jackets shot 43.3-percent after going 26-of-60 from the field as they also outrebounded the Eagles 38 to 33.

The first round of the conference playoffs will tip-off on Tuesday, Mar. 4, with the Jackets' exact seeding yet to decided due to the fact that two other teams are tied with the Jackets with the same record.  The Jackets are currently in 6th-place in the latest RMAC team standings
