Box Score 2 SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Yellow Jacket softball team (2-27, 1-21) dropped both games at Regis University to wrap up their weekend on the road. Regis won both games by just two runs by a score of 7-5 in game one and 4-2 in game two.
GAME 1
Regis needed just two innings of scoring to outlast the Jackets in the first contest of the day, as they scored all of their seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
In a scoreless game atop of the fourth inning, Savanah Eckhardt gave the Jackets the lead after an RBI single to left center. Regis then came back to take the lead after C Shelby Wieman had a two RBI triple before Nicole Hull hit a solo homer to take the lead, 3-1, after four.
An inning later, the Jackets went back to work offensively as C Erica Everson hit an RBI double to left, which was followed by a 3B Alexis Shaffer RBI single to tie the game up at three all. Eckhardt's RBI single that knocked home Everson then gave the Jackets the 4-3 lead.
Regis came back again to retake the lead with one swing of the bat by Alyssa Finger as she hit a two run triple to give her team the one run lead. Regis managed to score two more runs to give them four in the fifth inning before the Jackets added a run in the seventh after a wild pitch as Regis won 7-5.
Kaitlin Farrar was the losing pitcher as she went all six innings for the Jackets as Rachelle Knudson picked up the victory going 2.2 innings and giving up just one earned run.
GAME 2
Brittney Lee held the Yellow Jackets to six scoreless innings in the second game on Saturday, while she went all seven innings and gave up just two earned runs on two hits in the sixth as she struck out three on the day.
The Jackets' lone runs came in the sixth when LF Sara Schmid had an RBI triple that brought home pinch-runner, Cassie Smith. Schmid later scored from third on the throw that caught Ryan Cook attempting to steal second.
Regis scored one run in the first and third innings and then added two more in the fifth when LF Nicole Hull and DH Sam Talmich scored on a Yellow Jacket throwing error. Lee picked up her seventh win on the mound for Regis, while Brittany Geersen was the losing pitcher after going 4.2 innings and was charged with two earned runs.
The next time the Jackets will hit the weekend on April 19, 2014 when the Jackets host both Colorado Mesa and Chadron State for their last home weekend of the season.
