Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. – A late 7-0 run by New Mexico Highlands University gave the Black Hills State University men's basketball team a 77-76 setback Saturday night in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
The Yellow Jackets were coming off consecutive wins for the first time this year and looked to be in control after holding the lead for over 34 minutes of game action. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets drop to 6-12 overall and 4-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the Cowboys improve to 3-13, 3-9.
After entering halftime with a 34-28 lead, Black Hills State pushed its lead to 39-29, the largest lead of the game for either team, with 18:42 remaining. The Yellow Jackets continued to hold the lead throughout the second half until a last-minute surge carried NMHU to the victory.
Brady Bisgaard found Brody Brisk for a jumper to give the Green and Gold a 76-70 lead with 1:28 remaining. On the ensuing Cowboys possession Kendrick Nichols made a jumper to start the 7-0 run. The run ended with nine seconds on the clock as Ricky Norris sank a free throw for the 77-76 lead.
Wyatt Krogman had a chance to win the game for Black Hills State but his last second shot fell short.
Krogman led Black Hills State with a season-best 16 points while Nick Ongarato had 14 and Brody Brisk added 10. Norris led New Mexico Highlands with 18 points while Jonathon Mines added 15.
Krogman had a game-high five assists while Yoshio Allen and Ongarato each had a team-high six rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets return to the Young Center on Friday hosting No. 8 University of Colorado Colorado Springs at 7:30 p.m.
