Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell 75-63 to Fort Lewis College Saturday evening in the Young Center.
The Yellow Jackets, who were down by as many as 11 points in the first half but cut the deficit to four points at 38-34 at intermission. After the Skyhawks (10-3, 5-2 RMAC) scored on a dunk by Alex Herrera.
The Green and Gold then went on a 7-2 run beginning with a pair of free throws from Myles Henry. After a Herrera layup, Brody Brisk hit Brady Bisgaard for a 3-point basket. Brisk then hit a jumper to pull the Yellow Jacket to within one point at 42-41 with 17:46 remaining.
The Black Hills State offense then stalled for the next 5:18, with the only exception a Brisk free throw. At the same time, Fort Lewis had a lull in its offense and the Yellow Jackets (4-10, 2-6 RMAC) were only down 45-41. The Yellow Jackets finally hit a field goal when Nick Ongarato scored on a layup with 12:28 remaining in the game.
The Skyhawks immediately answered back with a layup off the hands of Austin Haldorson. Fort Lewis then stretched its lead to 10 points at 6-52 with 6:35 remaining in the game. In what seemed like a déjà vu moment from Friday night, the Yellow Jackets could not get over the final hump to make the comeback. Forced to foul as time was running out, the Skyhawks sank their free throws enroute to the 75-63 victory.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Myles Henry with 14 points, who also had a co-team high of five rebounds. Riley Ryan scored 12 points. Yoshio Allen, Wyatt Krogman and Henry each snagged five rebounds.
The Skyhawks were led by Alex Herrera with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds while Cade Kloster added 17 points and Rasmus Bah with 14 points.
Black Hills State steps out of conference action on Friday, making the short trek to Rapid City, S.D., for a 7:30 p.m. tip at South Dakota School of Mines. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Hardrockers 72-67 in an overtime thriller on November 17.
