Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – Down one point with 1.2 seconds remaining, Black Hills State University junior Nick Ongarato sank two free throws to give the Yellow Jackets a 61-60 victory over Regis University Friday night.
The Young Center crowd was on their feet as Brody Brisk grabbed a defensive rebound with 11 seconds remaining and the Green and Gold down 60-59. The play was set up for Ongarato to drive the left side of the lane where he drew the foul and calmly sank a pair of free throws to win the game.
The game played out much like the two-overtime thriller in December where Myles Henry hit the game-winning basket with time expiring. With the win, BHSU snaps a three-game losing streak and improves to 7-14 overall and 5-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Regis falls to 5-13, 3-11.
Black Hills State fought through 12 ties and 10 lead changes as Brody Brisk scored 14 points and Riley Ryan added 13 to lead the Green and Gold. Brady Bisgaard also had a hot hand scoring eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.
Dexter Sienko scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Brett Hartshorne added 10 points for Regis.
After the two squads kept playing hot potato with the lead, the Yellow Jackets appeared to pull away with 10:23 remaining as a 6-0 run propelled Black Hills State to a 50-43 lead. However, the Rangers answered back with a 7-0 run to knot the game at 50-50 giving flashback to the December 20 game and two overtimes.
Regis then drained a 3-point basket to take a 53-50 lead. An answer from Wyatt Krogman knotted the game back at 53 and led to the highlight ending.
The Yellow Jackets close out a four-game homestand Saturday, hosting No. 11 Metropolitan State University of Denver at 7:30 p.m.
