Box Score

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team gave No. 11 Metropolitan State University of Denver everything it could handle in a 73-71 double overtime loss Saturday night in the Young Center.

The Yellow Jackets had the Roadrunners on the ropes at the end of the first overtime after Nick Ongarato sank a free throw to give BHSU a 65-63 lead with 3 seconds on the clock.

However All-American Mitch McCarron drove the length of the court and made a layup with time expiring to force the second overtime.

In the second overtime Brady Bisgaard sank a trey from the left corner to give the Yellow Jackets momentum. McCarron immediately answered back with a jumper and the Roadrunners took the lead on a pair of Sam Porter free throws.

Bisgaard again was the answer for the Green and Gold with a trey from the same exact spot to give BHSU the 71-69 lead with 2:58 remaining.

Eric Rayer gave MSUD a one-point lead when he made a 3-point basket of his own with 1:17 remaining. After neither team could take advantage over the next minute of play, the Yellow Jackets had an opportunity to take the lead, and possibly the win with time running out.

Nicholas Kay missed a free throw with 33 seconds on the clock as Riley Ryan secured the rebound and BHSU set up its play. Brody Brisk began driving the right side of the lane when he his foot slipped out from under him and turned the ball over with four seconds remaining.

Black Hills State was forced to foul and sent Obi Kyei to the charity line who hit one-of-two free throws for a 73-71 lead. The Yellow Jackets had one last heave but were unable to convert.

Black Hills State falls to 7-15 overall and 5-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while MSU Denver improves to 18-3, 13-2.

After falling behind by seven points at 19-12 with 9:02 remaining, the Yellow Jackets went on a 12-2 run to grab a 24-21 lead. The run began with six-straight Myles Henry free throws.

The two points for the Roadrunners were a pair of shots from the charity stripe from Nicholas Kay. Brady Bisgaard then sank a 3-point basket followed by a layup Nick Ongarato to knot the game at 21-21.

Black Hills State then grabbed the lead on a wide-open 3-point basket from Brody Brisk.

The two squads would keep it close and enter halftime in a deadlock score of 28-all.

The Roadrunners built a seven-point lead at 39-32 just four minutes into the second stanza but the Yellow Jackets continued to methodically chip away at the lead.

Black Hills State pulled within two points when Wyatt Krogman dished to Yoshio Allen to bring the score to 49-47 with 8:17 remaining in the game.

MSU Denver then jumped back out to an 11-point lead, the largest in the game, at 58-47 with 3:54 remaining. However the Green and Gold closed regulation on an 11-0 run behind a 3-point basket from Bisgaard. Riley Ryan followed with a layup and a trey of his own with 1:40 remaining. Brisk then knotted the game at 58-all with a 3-point basket to send the game into overtime.
