BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Black Hills State University triathlon team competed in the Pumpkinman Triathlon in Boulder City, Nevada, Saturday, just 25 miles south of Las Vegas. The triathlon started in Lake Meade, the same lake held back by Hoover Dam.
Tess Byrd led the Yellow Jackets as she was 42nd overall but placed first in her age division and overall the sixth female to cross the finish line. She completed in a time of 1:34:35 including a BHSU-best 22:56 in the 5K run. She was also 14:36 in the swim and 52:57 on the bike portion.
Kate Griffin placed 46th overall, second in her age bracket and eighth female, in a time of 1:34:57. She clocked in with a 14:57 swim, 52:46 bike and 23:16 run.
Illiana Shuck placed 48th overall, 1st in her age bracket and the 10th female across the line, in a time of 1:36.30. She had the fastest bike of the day for the Yellow Jackets, completing the 12K course in 52:20. She also timed in at 16:30 in the swim and 24:16 on the run.
Shenae LaCroix placed 54th, 4th in her age bracket and the 14th female, in a time of 1:38:23. She had the fastest swim, completing the 750 meters in 13:51 while finishing in 56:27 on the bike and 24 minutes even on the run.
Katie Christy crossed the finish line in 1:46:40 to place 103rd overall and 31st female overall. She timed in with a 16:16 swim, 58:25 bike and 26:08 run. The final Yellow Jacket was Kaylee Lamb who placed 186th overall and 68th female in a time of 2:02:05. She had a 24:01 swim, 1:07.39 bike and 25:09 run.
The field consisted of 354 finishers between men and women and took the triathlons from Lake Meade into downtown Boulder City.
The Yellow Jackets compete against collegiate competition for the second time in their inaugural season at the Women's Collegiate Nationals in Clermont, Florida, on November 7.
