MBB: Yellow Jackets Fall to No. 17 Colorado Mines

Box Score

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Playing its fifth nationally-ranked opponent on the year, the Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell 70-54 to No. 17 Colorado School of Mines Friday night in the Young Center.

The Yellow Jackets kept things close throughout the first half of action holding leads of 8-7, 10-8 and 12-10. Colorado Mines entered the intermission with a 24-21 lead.

After the break, the Orediggers pushed their lead up to five points at 26-21 but the Yellow Jackets answered back with a jumper from Mitchell Foth. On the ensuing Oredigger possession Brady Bisgaard stole the ball from Caleb Waitsman and dished ahead to Wyatt Krogman for the fast-break layup.

However, a 12-1 run from Colorado Mines pushed the Oredigger lead to 38-26 with 15:14 remaining in the game.

The Yellow Jackets answered back and chipped the lead back to five points on a Riley Ryan 3-point basket with 12:06 left in the game but that was as close as they could get as the Orediggers showed their prowess en route to the 70-54 victory.

Ryan led the Yellow Jackets with 11 points while Colorado Mines put five in double figures led by Trevor Ritchie with 14 points.

Black Hills State returns to the Young Center Saturday for a 6 p.m. Valentine's Day affair against Colorado Christian.
