Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. – Despite a career high 22 points from Brody Brisk, the Black Hills State University men's basketball team were unable to stop a six-game winning streak from Colorado State University-Pueblo in a 78-67 setback Friday night.
Brisk eclipsed his previous career-best of 18 points while Nick Ongarato added 14 points but were unable to stop four Thunderwolves in double figures. With the loss the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-18 overall and 7-13 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CSU-Pueblo improves to 18-7,
The Yellow Jackets escaped a 13-point deficit in the first half after the Thunderwolves held a 27-14 advantage with 9:49 remaining. An 8-0 spurt, jumpstarted by a 3-point basket from Ben Beauchamp, brought the Green and Gold within five points at 27-22.
Black Hills State kept chipping away at the lead and knotted the score at 31-31 when Nick Ongarato sank a layup with 1:40 remaining in the half. However, a quick 5-0 run gave CSUP the 36-31 halftime advantage.
The Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to just one point on seven different occasions in the second half until a 12-2 run gave the Thunderwolves a 62-50 lead with 10:56 remaining.
The Green and Gold would continue to keep things within 10 points the remainder of the game but were unable to get over the final hump for the comeback victory.
The Thunderwolves were led by Odessa Lear and Will Newman with 12 points apiece.
The loss eliminates Black Hills State for the RMAC Shootout, which takes the top-eight teams from the conference.
The Yellow Jackets return to the hardwood Saturday facing No. 20 University of Colorado Colorado Springs at 7:30 p.m. in Colorado Springs.
