Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell 77-67 to No. 20 University of Colorado Colorado Springs Saturday night in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Riley Ryan with 16 points while Wyatt Krogman added 12 and Nick Ongarato with 10. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 7-17 overall and 6-14 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. UCCS improves to 22-4, 16-4.
The two squads played hot potato with the lead in the first half with 12 lead changes and eight ties. The Mountain Lions opened the largest lead of the half at six points with 4:25 remaining before the Yellow Jackets knotted the game back up at 39-all on a Brody Brisk 30-point basket.
The Green and Gold then took a 41-39 lead on a Myles Henry layup. Alex Welsh sank a pair of free throws for UCCS to tie the game back up at 41-41. With six seconds remaining in the half, Wyatt Krogman was able to maneuver a steal from the Mountain Lion offense and was then fouled where he made a free throw to give BHSU the 42-41 halftime lead.
After Riley Ryan opened the second stanza with a jumper, the Mountain Lions went on a 6-0 run to grab a 47-44 lead. The Mountain Lions slowly built on their lead throughout the second half before reaching the largest lead of the game of 12 points at 3:23.
Krogman had a solid night adding four assists and three steals to his 12 points while Yoshio Allen had nine points and a team-best six rebounds. UCCS was led by Derrick White with 16 points, although he was 3-of-12 from the field, he was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
UCCS was the sixth ranked opponent faced during the season, the most since joining NCAA Division II.
Black Hills State closes out its season Saturday hosting Chadron State at 6 p.m. in the Young Center. The night doubles as senior night for Brady Bisgaard, Brody Brisk and Yoshio Allen.
