GUNNISON, Colo. – From scoring the first basket to the last basket, the Black Hills State University men's basketball team defeated Western State Colorado University 65-57 Saturday night in Gunnison, Colorado.

The Yellow Jackets led from start to finish aided by Wyatt Krogman and Brody Brisk each scoring 12 points and Brady Bisgaard adding 10 more.

Black Hills State jumped out to an 8-0 lead thanks to an opening layup from Krogman. Yoshio Allen then stole the ball on the ensuing Western State possession setting up a jumper for Brisk followed by a free throw. Bisgaard then sank a lone-range basket for the quick lead.

The Mountaineers pulled within two points at 20-18 but the Yellow Jackets answered with a 6-0 run to stop the momentum and entered the intermission with a 28-22 lead.

Although the Yellow Jackets never lost the lead throughout the game, the two squads went basket-for-basket most of the second half as Western State pulled within two points seven different times in the second stanza.

Up 56-54, Riley Ryan sank a layup with 1:17 remaining to give the Green and Gold the last bit of juice it needed to pull out the victory. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Mountaineers 11-1 over the final 1:17 for the 65-57 victory.

Saturday was Brisk's ninth-straight game of scoring 10 or more points and now leads the team at 9.8 points per game. Following the three Yellow Jackets in double-digit scoring, Allen and Ryan each scored nine points apiece.

Allen grabbed a team-high nine seven rebounds while Krogman dished three assists and had three steals.

Western State was led by Devin Kastrup with 17 points and eight rebounds. Black Hills State is now 2-0 against former head coach Bradd Schafer.

The Yellow Jackets return home for their final full weekend of action of the regular season with a 7:30 p.m. contest Friday against Colorado School of Mines followed by a 6 p.m. tipoff against Colorado Christian Saturday.
