VB: Orediggers Too Much For Yellow Jackets

GOLDEN, Colo.—A lack of preparation is far from the case when it comes to the Black Hills State University volleyball team. The Yellow Jackets had their fill of ranked opponents prior to their Saturday evening date at #11 Colorado School of the Mines.

Adversity was in the cards for BHSU as they looked to rebound from three-consecutive losses. The Oredigger's (8-2, 2-0 RMAC) only two losses on the season came at the hands of #1 University of Minnesota-Duluth and #10 Wheeling Jesuit University.

The Yellow Jackets couldn't add themselves to that list as they fell to Colorado School of the Mines 3-0 on Saturday evening.

BHSU's record falls to 3-7, 0-2 RMAC.

The Orediggers made their presence known from the get go when they jumped to a 6-1 set-one lead paced by Megan Peterson's three consecutive kills. That lead continued to grow thanks to a balanced Colorado School of Mines attack that helped them secure a 25-16 set-one win.

Peterson, Frannie Cormier, Alanna Winfield and Janice Jin each registered kills in the Oredigger's set one win.

The Yellow Jackets had Colorado School of Mines on their toes throughout the opening stages of set two. A kill from Danielle Torpey and Kenzie Kazmer gave the Yellow Jackets a 3-2 lead.  Despite that being BHSU's only lead of the set, the Yellow Jackets tied the Orediggers on five occasions.

The daggar in the set occurred when four consecutive Peterson kills widened the Oredigger lead to 18-12. Peterson continued her stellar play when she closed the set with two kills to secure a 25-18 Oredigger victory.

Set three saw the Orediggers jump to a 7-0 lead thanks to four Winfield kills. Colorado Mines extended their lead to 22-8 before BHSU mounted a comeback.

Eight Oredigger attack errors helped narrow the deficit to 23-18, but they found a rhythm just in time to lock up a 25-19 set-three win.

Peterson led all players with 17 kills. Torpey led BHSU with seven kills while Lacy Stevens registered 16 digs.

The Yellow Jackets will return to the Young Center for the first time this season on Friday, September 25 when they take on New Mexico Highlands University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
