LAKEWOOD , Colo. – The Black Hills State University triathlon team competed for the second time in the inaugural 2015 season at the Littlefoot Triathlon in Lakewood, Colorado, Sunday morning.
Kate Griffin led the way for the Yellow Jackets by placing 62nd in the field of 322 competitors full of men and women, professionals and club members. Griffin timed in at 1:10.51, which was second-fastest in her 20-24 age bracket.
Tess Byrd was the second Yellow Jacket across the finish line with a time of 1:11.20. Her time of 22:25 in the 5K run was the fastest in her age group while placing 66th overall.
Shenae LaCroix clocked in with an overall time of 1:13.06 in 75th position. Illianna Shuck placed 92nd overall but was the 16-19 year old ago bracket champion with a time of 1:16.16. She was followed by Katie Christy in 100th position in a time of 1:16.45. Christy clocked in the fastest swim in her age bracket with a time of 17:51.
Overall, LaCroix was the top Yellow Jacket in the water, swimming the 750-meter course in 15:12. The top BHSU cyclist was Griffin in 28:53 on the 15K course. In the 5K run, Byrd led the Green and Gold in 22:25.
Black Hills State takes to the course on September 27 for its first collegiate-only race in the Collegiate Region Championship in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
