MBB: Yellow Jackets Tripped Up at Colorado Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team dropped an 88-63 contest Saturday night at Colorado School of Mines in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The Yellow Jackets (9-10, 7-8 RMAC) jumped out to an 8-4 lead to open the game after Nick Ongarato and Max Mueller each contributed two points. Tate Hilgenkamp then made back-to-back layups for the 8-4 score with 15:54 remaining in the first stanza.

However, after Hilgenkamp's second layup, Luke Schroepfer hit a 3-point basket for CSM (15-6, 10-5 RMAC) to spark an 18-0 run. The run opened a 22-8 lead with 8:13 remaining in the first half. The Yellow Jackets stopped the run when Hilgenkamp again scored on a layup.

However the damage had been done as the Orediggers entered halftime with a 41-24 lead. The second half saw CSM shoot 58.6 percent fro the field (17-of-29) en route to the 88-63 victory.

Hilgenkamp and Ongarato each scored 18 points to lead the Yellow Jackets. Adam Laine came off the bench for the Orediggers to score 31 points.

Riley Ryan grabbed a team-best six rebounds.

Black Hills State returns to the Young Center on Friday, hosting Adams State at 7:30 p.m.
