VB: Eckhardt Reaches Sixth Triple-Double to Help Sweep Griffins

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Brynn Eckhardt records her sixth triple-double on the season to help the Black Hills State University volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over the Westminster Griffins. Eckhardt had 17 assists, 12 digs and 11 kills.

The Yellow Jackets took all three sets and they went as follows: 25-22, 25-18, 25-21.

In set one, Black Hills State went on a quick 5-1 run until the Griffins were able to tie it up at 7-all. Westminster kept it close coming within one point at 20-19 to challenge the Yellow Jackets. It was not enough though as BHSU closed out the set at 25-22 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, the Yellow Jackets went on a five-point run to take a 7-2 lead with kills byBrynn EckhardtLaurel Lech, and Danielle Torpey for three points and two attack errors made by the Griffins. At 11-6, the Green and Gold went on another five-point run to take the lead to 15-6. Eckhardt served for those five points and four kills came from Fehrin Ward, Torpey and two from Sierra Stugelmeyer and one attack error by Westminster.  Sydney Ederhoff tallied three service aces to increase the lead by nine at 19-10.  The Yellow Jackets closed the set out at 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In set three, both teams kept trading off points until 18-all. Black Hills State scored three points to take the lead 21-18 with two kills by Ellise Lech and an attack error by the Griffins. The Yellow Jackets closed the set out at 25-21 to win the match 3-0.

Joining Eckhardt, Ellise Lech tallied 10 kills, Stugelmeyer had six while Ward, Palu and Torpey registered four kills of their own. Palu recorded a .364 hitting percentage while Stugelmeyer had a .222 hitting percentage.

On defense, Lacy Stevens took charge with 22 digs while Tara Hall had 10 digs of her own.  Ward registered six blocks with Palu and Ellise Lech were right behind with three blocks each.

"This match was a good another good defensive game for us, with several players contributing," said head coach Kristin Carmichael.

"I'm pleased with how we aren't letting runs from the other team frazzle us and creating offensive situations that allow us to go on runs of our own."

The Green and Gold close out their home series on Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22 against Colorado Mesa and Western State. First serve on Friday is at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
