VB: Yellow Jackets Celebrate Senior and Parent's Night

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Tied for first in the nation with six triple-doubles, Brynn Eckhardt and the Black Hills State University volleyball team celebrates senior night and parent's night on Friday and Saturday as No. 24 Colorado Mesa and Western State come to visit. First serve on Friday is at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The Mavericks are 9-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 15-3 overall.  Leading the way on offense, Setter of the Week Ali Svorinic has tallied 668 assists with a 10.65 assist per set average. Alongside Svorinic, MacKenzie Edwards has registered 268 kills with a 3.88 average per set.

Preseason Player of the Year Taylor Woods takes charge of the defense with 337 digs and a 4.88 per set average. Alongside Woods, Hattie Gianinetti has tallied 38 blocks and a 0.73 per set average. The Mavericks own a preseason finish of second place in the conference and currently rank second.

The Mountaineers enter the weekend with a 5-5 record in conference action and a 9-9 record on the season. Leading the way for Western State on offense, Allison Walker has registered 602 assists with a 9.87 average per set.  Alongside Walker, Tori Gaherty and Jordan Eatwell lead the team for kills. Gaherty has tallied 238 kills with a 3.31 average and 17 service aces while Eatwell has 205 kills with a 2.85 average.

On defense, Amanda Maestas leads the way with 320 digs on the season and a 4.44 average per set. Avery Burkholder and Molly Hothan assist Maestas on defense with blocks. Burkholder has totaled 62 blocks on the season with a 0.93 average while Hothan is right behind with 59 blocks and a 0.86 average.  Western State owns a preseason finish of seventh in the conference and currently rank eighth.

The Yellow Jackets improved their record to 3-7 in RMAC action and 5-13 on the season. Eckhardt leads the way on offense with 499 assists with a 7.16 average. She has been a triple-threat as she has tallied 218 digs and 116 kills as well. Alongside Eckhardt, Ellise Lech has recorded 145 kills with a 2.20 per set average.

On defense, Lacy Stevens takes charge with 386 digs with a 5.51 average per set. Stevens was named to the First-Team All-Academic RMAC team. Defensive Player of the Week Fehrin Ward and Cheyenne Palu continue to help on defense. Ward helped the Yellow Jackets to a 3-1 victory over South Dakota Mines and a 3-0 sweep over Chadron totaling 14 blocks. She currently ranks sixth in the nation for blocks with 95 and ten of those are solo and a 1.40 average per set. Palu is currently ranked third in the nation with 104 blocks, 11 of those solo, and a 1.49 average.

Following the weekend, the Yellow Jackets hit the road for five matches starting at UCCS on Friday, October 28 and MSU Denver Saturday, October 29. First serve Friday is at 7 p.m. followed by 5 p.m. on Saturday.
