LAREDO, Texas – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell 72-42 at Texas A&M International Saturday in Laredo, Texas.
Black Hills State never led in the contest after getting off to a sluggish start as the Dustdevils opened a 14-3 lead with 12:49 to go in the first half. The Yellow Jackets were unable to recover after shooting 25 percent (10-of-40) from the field. Texas A&M International countered with a 43.9 percent (25-of-57) shooting percentage.
Patrick Mendes led the way for the Yellow Jackets with eight points on 2-of-4 shooting and making 4-of-6 free throws.
Zach McLemore and
Fraser Malcolm each tallied seven points apiece.
Sam McCloud grabbed a team-high six rebounds in the contest.
A trio led the Dustdevils in double-digit scoring with Denzel Bellot and Jordan VanDeKop each scoring 12 points.
Fraser Malcolm and McCloud each had two steals while
Wyatt Krogman tallied two assists.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 0-2 on the young season while TAMIU improves to 3-2.
The Yellow Jackets make their 2016-17 home debut Saturday, hosting Northern State. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. from the Young Center.
