MBB: Yellow Jackets Make Home Debut Saturday

THE GAME - Northern State
  • Meeting for the first time since 2007-08, an exhibition contest, the two South Dakota squads square off for the first time as NCAA Division II opponents. The Wolves prevailed 77-75 in that 2007 meeting, an exhibition for both squads.
  • The Wolves are 1-2 on the young season and are coming off a one-point loss to Southwest Minnesota on Tuesday.
  • Senior Mack Arvidson leads the team with 16.0 points per game, a team that gets up-and-down the floor averaging 80.7 points per game.
THE COACHES
  •  Jeff Trumbauer enters his third season with the Yellow Jackets and owns a 22-33 record at BHSU. Overall, he owns a 116-122 record in his ninth season as a head coach. Trumbauer coaced the first First Team All-RMAC performer from BHSU in Nick Ongarato last season.
  • Paul Sather, the former head coach at Black Hills State, is in his seventh season at the helm of the Wolves. Sather led the Wolves to the 2015 NCAA national tournament and is looking for his 200th career win, currently at 199 entering the weekend.
GENERAL NOTES

Sather Makes his Return to the Donald E. Young Center
Northern State head coach Paul Sather roamed the sidelines for Black Hills State from 2005 to 2010. During that time, Sather simply led the Yellow Jackets to to a pair of Dakota Athletic Conference Championships and appearances in the NAIA National Tournament. Included in that is a trip to the NAIA Final Four. While at BHSU, Sather compiled a 94-62 record, the fourth-most wins for a head coach at BHSU.

That's a Daily Double
Fraser Malcolm was a bright spot in the Yellow Jackets loss at Texas A&M - Kingsville. The sophomore recorded his first career double-double at 13 points and 13 rebounds. The 13 rebounds are a career best while 13 points fell one point shy of tying his career mark of 14 points.

Starting 0-2; Turning that to 1-2
The losses are the first time since the 2011-12 season that the Yellow Jackets have opened a season 0-2. In that year, BHSU opened 0-5 before closing out the year with an 11-20 record. The past two years, the Yellow Jackets have started their season with a 1-2 record, with a victory against Northern State, that mark can be achieved for the third-straight season.

1,000-point watch
Although he won't join the Yellow Jacket 1,000-point club until he reaches the milestone in a Yellow Jacket uniform, Zach McLemore has a chance to reach 1,000 post high school points as he tallied 787 points at Colorado Christian, including 441 points as a sophomore. Through two games with BHSU, McLemore has tallied a career total of 806 points.

Career Assists
Wyatt Krogman has tallied 219 assists over his first two seasons, and could be staring down the school record for assists in a career. With his 219, he already ranks sixth all-time and is chasing Lonnie Stover who tallied 474 assists from 1982-86. With two games in the books for 2016-17, Krogman is currently at 225 career assists.
