SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team fell Saturday evening 64-55 against the Colorado Christian Cougars.
In the final seconds of the game, the Yellow Jackets looked to rally back as
Julia Seamans grabbed a steal off of a Cougars inbounds play. Seamans passed it back to
Keely Bertram as she missed the shot to have teammate
Kassidy Scott step in to grab the rebound and shoot the jumper to only trail by nine points at 61-52.
With less than ten seconds to go, Scott tossed the ball back to Seamans at the top of the three-point range to put up a shot at the buzzer to bring the score to 64-55 but it was not quite enough for the Green and Gold to earn a second conference win.
The Cougars saw four players score in double-digits. Jordan Baer led the way with 13 points with Alex Nelson and Kaitlyn Hinch scoring 11 each and Mikala Gordon recorded a double-double scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 of the 44 rebounds for CCU.
Bertram and Seamans led the offense for the Green and Gold scoring 11 points each giving Bertram a new season-high.
Taylor Trohkimoinen and
Rachel Erickson were the second leading scorers with nine points apiece.
Defensively, Bertram, Trohkimoinen and Scott each grabbed eight rebounds apiece while Balster had five.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 1-7 on the season and 1-3 in conference action while the Cougars improve to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Black Hills State will continue its homestand next weekend December 16 and 17 hosting Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents Regis and Chadron State. Tip off for Friday is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.
