COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team dropped its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener Friday night to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs 78-57.
Black Hills State's three-game winning streak was snapped as it falls to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Mountain Lions improve to 2-4, 1-0.
LD Thomas led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 10 points, as the team as a whole shot 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the floor while the home squad shot a comfortable 53.2 percent (25-of-47) on its home baskets.
Black Hills State took its first lead of the game with 14:27 remaining in the first half when
Jonas Anderson hit a jumper for the 11-2 lead. After pushing UCCS to a missed shot, Thomas sank a 3-point basket for the five-point lead at 14-9.
However, a 7-0 run from UCCS gave the Mountain Lions the lead back, one that would only tally back to two ties before UCCS pulled away in the second half.
Thomas' 10 points was the team-high as he played 26 minutes and recorded two assists.
Fraser Malcolm and
Stefan Desnica each scored nine points apiece.
Ryan Vanpelt and Treshawn WIlford, each with 12 points, led UCCS.
The Yellow Jackets don't have time to dwell on the game as the Green and Gold faces MSU Denver tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Denver, Colorado.
