SPEARFISH, S.D. –
Julia Seamans career-high 19 points led the Black Hills State University women's basketball to its first team victory this season over Colorado Mines, 86-68.
The Orediggers came out quick getting the first points on the board at 8:41 with a jumper by Elizabeth Tomon assisted by Caitlyn Smith. The Yellow Jackets moved the ball down the court to respond with a three-pointer by Seamans assisted by
Cheyanne Balster to take the lead.
That put the Yellow Jackets into momentum as they increased the lead to 23-15 by the end of the first quarter. BHSU had their biggest lead yet on the season and at home with a 21-point difference as they led at the intermission, 47-26.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the game started getting exciting. The Yellow Jackets led by 24 points but the Orediggers started finding their momentum and cut the lead in half. Within a two-minute span, Colorado Mines went on a 12-2 run starting with two made free throws by Anna Kollmorgen. Emily Bailey followed that up with a three-pointer assisted by Laura Tyree.
With 5:10 left to go in game, Bailey sent a pass up to Husa, who was wide open at the three-point, to finish the 12-2 run for the Orediggers but that was not enough for them to overcome the Yellow Jackets sting as BHSU closed the game out at 86-68.
The Yellow Jackets put in a sound team effort as they went 50 percent (26-of-52) from the field, 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from three-point range, and 85.7 percent (24-of-28) from the line. They outscored the Orediggers 32-21 on bench points.
Seamans saw 29 minutes of action and was on fire making 7-for-9 from the field, 4-for-5 from far, and 1-for-2 from the line. Three other Yellow Jackets contributed to offense as well with
Kassidy Scott being the second leading scorer with 17 points, tying her season and career-high while
Keely Bertram scored a season-high 15 and
Sierra Toms had 10.
Scott led the way on defense as she grabbed a season-high eight rebounds while

"It was a great team win! I'm proud of the team's effort!" said head coach
