SB: Yellow Jackets Fall to Colorado Mines and Adams State

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Black Hills State University softball team completed the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pod on Sunday in Golden, Colorado, falling 2-0 to Colorado Mines and 4-1 to Adams State.

Offense was a struggle for both teams in both games as the Yellow Jackets scored their run off the bat of Katelyn Odle against Adams State.

The losses drop the Yellow Jackets to 4-13 overall and 4-8 in the RMAC. Colorado Mines is 6-10, 6-5 and Adams State 7-16, 5-6.

Game One: Colorado Mines 2 Black Hills State 0

Senior Carlee Beck started in the circle for the Yellow Jackets, giving up seven hits over six innings, while the Yellow Jackets countered with five hits of their own.

The Green and Gold had chances to score, including a bases-loaded first inning, but a strikeout from Maddie Rogers ended the threat.

The Orediggers tallied their first run of the game in the first inning on a Katie Leiker single, then followed up in the third inning with a single from Dani Valerio.

The Yellow Jackets five hits came off the bat of five different players: Claire Ferguson, Lauren Lesniak, Katie Campo, Katelyn Odle and Pamela Sakuma.

Game Two: Adams State 4 Black Hills State 1

The Yellow Jackets pounded out eight hits and Alex Wiley held the Grizzlies to just four hits, but ASU utilized Yellow Jacket errors to score four runs, just two of which were earned.

Down 2-0 in the fourth inning, Odle hit a groundout to the second basement, scoring Morgan Smith from third base who had tripled an at-bat earlier. However that was the only offense the Yellow Jackets would have as the Grizzlies scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Of the eight hits, Smith had two of them while Savanah Eckhardt, Odle, Erica Everson, Campo, Lesniak and Kelsea Nash collected the other six. In the circle, Wiley struck out four batters.

The Yellow Jackets return to the friendly confines of Yellow Jacket Field on Saturday and Sunday, hosting Fort Lewis College. On Saturday, the doubleheader is scheduled for Noon and 2 p.m. Sunday's contests get underway at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
