LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Black Hills State University softball team played its second tripleheader of the season Friday falling in all three contests to Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colorado.
The Yellow Jackets fell 8-0, 13-1 and 8-3 to the Cougars that saw senior Katie Campo accumulate a team-high four hits on the day along with
Black Hills State returns to Spearfish to host MSU Denver and Colorado Mesa on Saturday and Sunday next week. Saturday's Yellow Jacket games are scheduled for noon and 4 p.m. while Sunday has 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. starts.
Game One: Colorado Christian 8 Black Hills State 0
Katie Campo had the only Yellow Jacket hit while Tana Feiner struck out five for the Cougars. Carlee Beck got the start in the circle for the Yellow Jackets, giving up five earned runs and striking out three.
Game Two: Colorado Christian 13 Black Hills State 1
Campo gave the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead when she hit her first home run of the season, a solo shot into left center field.
However the Cougars immediately answered back in the bottom half of the first, scoring 10 runs in the opening frame.
Along with Campo's home run, Morgan Smith, Alex Wiley, Jo-Jo Curry and Claire Fergusson each tallied a hit for the Green and Gold.
Game Three: Colorado Christian 8 Black Hills State 3
Black Hills State again jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, this time thanks to a double from Smith followed by a single from Campo to send Smith home. The Cougars again answered back in the bottom half but this time with a run before placing a four-spot on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second.
The Yellow Jackets tallied their second run of the game when Erica Everson hit a double through the left side scoring Campo, who reached base on a single.
Black Hills State also got a run in the sixth inning when Alex Menke pinch ran for Everson at second base. She then scored when Lauren Lesniak reached base on an error.
