SPEARFISH, S.D. – Playing each other for the second time in just eight days, the Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell 80-60 to Colorado State University – Pueblo Saturday night in the Young Center.
The Yellow Jackets led just once in the game, when LD Thomas sank a pair of free throws with 18:03 on the clock in the first half. From there all ThunderWolves who opened a 16-point lead in the first half before entering intermission with a 40-27 advantage.
Black Hills State was unable to grab any momentum in the second half as CSUP continued to build on its lead, which topped out at 25 points at 76-51 with 4:25 remaining in the game.
Black Hills State ended the game on a quick 4-0 run with layups from Elijah Coleman and Jonas Anderson to make the final score 80-60.
Zach McLemore and Fraser Malcolm each scored in double digits with McLemore tallying 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Malcolm Scored 13 points. Will Newman paced Colorado State – Pueblo with 19 points.
CSU-Pueblo won the rebound battle by three rebounds as Mark Williams completed a double-double with 10 rebounds and 14 points. Max Mueller grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.
Antonio Capley saw his best game of the season with six points on 3-of-3 shooting and six rebounds and a block for the Green and Gold while Hoyt Nicholas saw a season-high 12 minutes scoring six points.
Black Hills State, who is 5-11 overall and 2-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, plays its next four games on the road starting with Fort Lewis on Friday at 7:30 p.m. followed by a trip to Adams State on Saturday with another 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
