SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell to Colorado Mesa, 5-0, on Saturday morning.
In what was the final game of the season, the Mavericks (8-8-1, 5-6-1 RMAC) had control of the game for the initial 10 minutes. However, the Yellow Jackets (1-15, 1-10 RMAC) got back into the game, controlling possession, and putting pressure on the CMU defense.
In the 28th minute, the Mavericks jumped on top, scoring a headed goal off a corner kick, and the visitors took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
CMU again started the period on the front foot, this time getting a goal in the 59th minute. Just four minutes later, the Mavericks increased their lead to 3-0. Colorado Mesa added goals in the 68th and 71st minutes to lead, 5-0. BHSU recorded four shots on goal in the final 20 minutes, but were unable to get on the scoreboard, and ultimately fell.
The Yellow Jackets were outshot, 28-9, and the Mavericks also took more corner kicks, 8-0.

Raven Johnson (1-10) took the loss for BHSU. She played the first half, making five saves and allowing one goal.
Zoe Baldwin played the final 45 minutes, allowing four goals, while making nine saves. Â
Madison Jones (2), Alexis Allard, Jocelyn Ceccarelli, and Leily Ghods scored for CMU. Jessica Jolley earned the victory in net, making seven saves.
The Yellow Jackets wrapped up the season on Saturday. They finished the year 1-15, and 1-10 in RMAC play. The team defeated Colorado Christian for its win, which was the first league win in program history. BHSU graduates just one player, as the program concludes its second season of existence.
